it's official people.
Redesigning terian, even in original content.
two new races! guess who!!!
Flight availible everywhere!
and guess what.....NO HERO CLASS!!! hehe. I personally like that. however, I am looking forward to starting my brand spankin new Gnome PRIEST!! more mana then ever before.
new level cap 85! (not ten levels like we had with wotlk, just five, that's managable)
and the long dispute is over about where they are going next, a lot of you were right, there will in fact be an underwater city!
and here's a nice surprize, a new proffesion, Archeology! wonder what's going to come from this one? mayby something to rival the fascination with engineering?
/discuss
This looks brilliant :D
But I am just curious to how the destroyed terrain is going to work.. Because of the new race/class combos lots of people are going to be creating new characters with old races - so will the terrain be the same or destroyed?
Despite this - looking forward to seeing the whole new landscapes, while flying! :D
This is an awesome idea from blizz. I have over 8 high lvl chars and level from 1-60 has become a task not an experience. with the changes being made all over the old areas this will be different. old quests won't even exist anymore, so u'll have to learn all these new quests to lvl. while dealing with maps that looked like their destroyed.
But if they make me pay another 1000G for a flying licence i'll be kinda annoyed. I'd rather have a unque quest to unlock that.
Plus worgen FTW. I've been waiting for them to unlock that area ever since I spent almost an hour trying to get through that damn gate near SFK.
kinda pissed worgen can't become paly's but gobs can. ur already a beast why would blizz give them druid as a class to turn in to a beast, I'll be a wolf that has a catform WTF?!?
Lastly the old joke will finally die DEAD MINES HEROIC!!! that's the singles funniest thing ever.
so wait. if the goblins go horde whats gonna happen to booty bay? is it gonna stay nuetral or go horde?
Its gonna be neutral because the playable goblins are of a different group than Steamwheedle. But are worgens able to do SFK?
booty bay will remain neutral the goblins that are joining the horde are from a different cartel
And they have new class combinations.
Human hunters (now the south park episode is true).
Gnome priest (omg INT !).
Dwarf mage (why not...) and shaman (WTF?).
Night Elf mage ( i always wondered why they didn't have that).
Nothing for the draenei (evil warlock draenei would be cool...)
And for the Horde...
Orc mage (kinda weird).
Tauren priest (i guess that makes sense...) and paladin (wait a minute??? WTF???).
Blood Elf warrior (I don't care they're still gay).
Undead hunter ( what else would they give them?).
Troll druid (YES! A new druid class means new bear/cat form looks. But i wish they would have included warlocks).
hate to correct u but a majority of the dran, before they came to outlands, cant remember what it was called before, and azeroth a vast majority actually joined the burning legion under the orders of kil-j and archimonde who where both dran themselves but got turned into ther demonic state by to much exposure to the burning legion, vallen was rescued from said fate by the naaru and rounded all the beleivers of light he could and hopped a naaru tele to the orc homeworld, only to be followed and slaughtered furtherstill by the demon infested orc horde and then fled to azeroth, so warlock dran would be perfectly understandable, since most of them chose that path anyway
lorewise ofc, dont see the surviving dran standing for some locks among ther own ranks
I just noticed you said "WTF" next to dwarfs as Shamans. What so bad about that, they are pretty much decendants of earth, waht's more shaman like? But i will back u up on taruen pallies, they arent even holy. I cant wait to make a holy cow though.
"holy" would be in the "eye of the beholder," if i'm not mistaken...
ps...sorry bout the "quotes" ;D
Tauren Paladin = Giant Blue and White armored Kodo?
"A paladin must be of good alignment and loses all light abilities if he ever willingly commits an evil act. Additionally, the paladins code requires that he respect legitimate authority, act with honor (not lying, not cheating, not using poison and so forth), help those in need (provided they do not use their help for evil or chaotic ends), and punish those who harm or threaten innocents."
well i dont agree on that very much cuz it confuses me why the Scarlet Monastery still has its holy power even tought they dont use it respectfully or to protect the weak
well i dont agree on that very much cuz it confuses me why the Scarlet Monastery still has its holy power even tought they dont use it respectfully or to protect the weak
There are two things to look at:
1) The Scarlet Crusade is actually being controlled by The Burning Legion.
2) Coinciding our history, if you look at the Knight Templars during the Holy Crusades, they mass murdered Muslims all in the name of their god and faith, since they were all 'heathens'. Therefore, the Knights were doing an act of good for ridding 'their' lands of such an 'evil'.
Same with many of the sub-factions in Warcraft lore, many of these causes and 'faiths' believe that their view of the world it the correct one. Therefore, whatever they do, even if inhumane, would be considered good because everyone else is evil.
With the old world being revamped and auberdine being destroyed i wonder what will happen to the flight paths. After all the night elves can't get off terrsidal (spelt that wrong) without the boat to auberdine or the flight path there.
The four healing classes use either Nature Healing or Holy Healing; Pirest, Paladin ~ Holy, Shaman, Druid ~ Nature. Tauren being Paladins and Priests doesn't fit because as a whole Tauren worship the Earth Mother, akin to a Shamans ancestors. Making them suddenly turn to the light is a huge religious change which wouldn't happen >.>
Gnomes are also atheists so giving them a religion doesn't fit. Night Elf mage so now everyone can be like Illidan =P and the Draenei have no reason why they cannot be corrupted to have Warlocks etc, but they would need a new racial spell =S
I want to see a picture of an Undead Hunter where a Wolf pet has his master's arm in his mouth ^^
but but ... DEATHWING

wait, so the draenei can be corrubted, but the "athiest" gnomes can't find religion?
and if you read into blood elf paladins, they don't use the light like a human or draenei. Instead, they bend it to their will. It says in wowwiki for paladin lore that people often confuse the blood knights (blood elf pallies) with the knights of the silver hand (humans) but that is incorrect. I see no reason why there is such a problem with tauren learning to bend the light, and still worship the earth mother. just because so many wow players are stuck in their ways doesn't mean that the tauren are.
as for undead hunters, I sooo see a new racial coming....FETCH: throw your arm/leg/other appendige and have your pet retrieve it. provides hours of entertainment for your pet, increasing it's happiness by 50%
The 'problem' with Warcraft lore as it stands in WoW is that each expansion is a new chapter of 'one book'. Therefore, 'nothing much' has happened since vanilla WoW. Just imagine playing WoW as reading a one of Blizzard's paperbacks. Right now with the Cataclysm expansion, WoW lore has reached its climax and it's up to us, the players to venture into this climax and do something about it.
All the stuff during vanilla, Outlands and Northrend is just building up to this point. That's why the whole idea of Tauren becoming or doing something else, or some other race becoming something else in such a 'short period of time' seems off.
We can safely assume that the rate of the expansions since vanilla reflects that of 'in-game' progression in time as well. So five years isn't really enough time for anything drastic to happen.
Am I making any sense? I was looking for that thread that Luvan posted in thanking me for something and wanted to respond, but ended up looking at some videos for the new expansion and speaking in circles with Hotmail support staff. Idiots.
An American Muslim doesn't make sense because Americans are Christian. Likewise, a South African can't become Buddhist, someone from Japan can't become Christian, and someone from the deep deep Amazonian jungle can't turn Atheist.
Obviously, the above statements are ridiculous, but the same principle should be applied to the Race/Class restrictions in WoW.
Blizzard expanding the variety of playstyles doesn't have anything to do with Lore, it has more to do with the realism of individual people being able to select their own ideological persuasion. Just a large group of individuals is more inclined to behave a certain way or believe in something doesn't mean that all individuals are restricted to that lifestyle.
When you bring lore into the whole situation, Night Elfs are perhaps the best example of the class expansion - originally, they all used magic quite freely; at the time, a Night Elf Druid probably sounded stupid to everyone. But after the destruction of their giant moonwell and Azshara bringing in the Burning Legion to Azeroth (think of this as an expansion event), the survivors made the decision to stop using magic and focus solely on Druidism.
Since the world is about to be turned upside down with Deathwing's assault, you can bet that invididuals from every race are going to be willing to change their ideology to survive.
What are the classes for the Worgen & Goblins?
What are the classes for the Worgen & Goblins?
OK I couldn't find it at first. See below for the classes.
Goblins = DK, Hunter, Mage, Priest, Rogue, Shammy, Lock, & Warrior
Worgen = DK, Drood, Hunter, Mage, Priest, Rogue, Lock, & Warrior

There's a fair difference between losing your faith and changing it. Many Christians have said to have lost their faith after a devastating blow in their life, such as the loss of a family member. It's slightly more uncommon for a Christian to suddenly decide they want to be a follower of Judaism or Buddhism though (i.e. Druid to Paladin). As for the Gnomes, they're said to be very practical people using science rather than religion. Again, sudden change to their life style to decide to be religious.
There's a quote I can't remember from one of the novels but is getting at how different Shamanism is to the Holy Light, where it draws strength from the Earth and the Ancestors whereas the Holy Light is universal and brings all life together. It's a completely different element and a follower of "natural" healing shouldn't technically be able to just find the Light and use it.. It'd be like a Warrior deciding they want to try their luck in Arcane Magic. I wish I could remember the quote as it emphasises the difference in nature and light, I'll try and find it tonight.

Actually only the Blood Knights do this, the Bloof Elf Paladins you see played by players in game follow the true path of Paladins, Wowwiki says this:
It is also important to note that not all high elves, now blood elves, abandoned their former ways to become Blood knights. A very small minority of blood elves continued to follow their path as true Paladins of the Light.
The Blood Knights are the followers of Kael'Thas who used the Naaru's light for their own purposes, which was how they corrupted M'uru.

I would love to see this ^^
I like this change:
Guild Advancement is a feature announced during BlizzCon 2009 which will allow guilds to level in a way similar to characters. There will be 20 levels for a guild to progress through. Experience towards level progression is gained through guild member participation in raid boss kills, battleground victories, Arena victories, and profession skill-ups. To qualify for guild XP, a raid or PvP group must have been composed of at least 75% guild members. Guild XP will also be converted into a currency that can be used to buy guild-bound items like heirlooms and raid materials.
Guild Talent Tree
A guild is able to level up to level 20. Advancement in levels is done in a matter similar to player characters: a variety of tasks lead to earning XP which counts towards advancing to the next level. Unlike player XP, guild XP is also a form of currency which can be used to buy items (see below).
Activities which earn guild XP include:
Boss kills in a raid or dungeon in which 75% of the party is from the same guild
Rated Battleground or Arena wins in which 75% of the party is from the same guild
An individual player's faction reputation advancement
An individual player's profession progression
For each level, the guild is awarded a talent point, which can be used to purchase a guild-wide talent. These are not talents in the sense of player talents which increase an individual's stats or change a spell, nor will there be talents which are required to kill a boss, but these talents will add convinced to guild-related activities like raid-wide resurrection after a wipe or raid-wide summons.
Abilities granted via guild talents include (tentative list):
Reduced cost on repairs
Increased gold drops off of mobs
Mass resurrection
Raid summons
No reagents for raid-wide buffs
Percentage of a boss's gold garnished by guild bank
Increased benefits from guild potions
Guild Currency and Guild Items
The guild XP earned will be convertible into a kind of special currency which can be used to buy special items. These items are bound to the guild; if a member possessing a guild item leaves the guild, the item is returned to the guild bank. These items will be purchased via special guild vendors.
Guild bound items proposed at BlizzCon include:
Heirloom gear
Rare reagents
Profession plans (person leaving the guild looses the ability to craft the item)
Guild talent respects
Guild bank tabs
Vanity items, such as pets
Guild standard
Guild Achievements
Guilds will also be able to gain achievements for killing bosses, obtaining a certain membership demographic, and other activities. Some achievements will reflect achievements already available to players.
Achievements mentioned at BlizzCon include:
Clearing a raid instance
Having a Grand Master in every profession
Obtaining a legendary item
UI Changes
The guild pane will be revamped to facilitate the management of all these changes. Also, one will be able to view guild member's professions. A filterable achievements pane will be added for guild achievements as well as guild statistics like boss kills, loot, reputation gains, profession gains, and level-ups. A guild RSS feed will be added to WoW Armory.
Finally, the Looking For Guild facilities in-game will be completely revamped and will be similar to the Looking for Group utility.
Wowwiki
Dudes, no matter what explanations you may want to come up with... Tauren Paladins? WTF?
Now Paladinsm are just another class anyone can get? I thought they were meant to be the Guardians of the Light? Enemies of the Undead?
Light = Alliance
Now Paladin Taurens can get some drinks with the Forsaken like it's nothing. Fantastic Blizzard, good way to destroy your own lore!

Note that Blood elf palladins could already "get some drinks with the foresaken" Maybe the blood elves taught them the ways of the palladin, maybe blizzard didn't know what else to do.
forsaken are in the argent dawn to
pallays fight the scourge becouse it is spreading but forsaken dont have the intention to kill ppl for their numbers and that is a big difference

There's also a big difference between the scourge and the foresaken. I'll admit though I do to find the idea of a tauren palladin a little odd, blizzard is just trying to give people that play the game, it's customers more options and variety, which is a good thing.
I'm sure the tauren palladin will have some form of back story which will be in the expansion from class trainers, quests etc.
its not going to be horde controlled its owned by different goblins
i don't want to switch factions just to try the other factions class wtf

Does anyone know what the worgen and the goblins mounts are?
goblin mounts are going to be "go-karts" type of vehicle and idk what worgen are
Paladin, by definition, is a "champion of a cause". Historically, they are religious warriors.
One doesn't have to be a follower of The Light to be a Paladin. Tauren with their heavy belief in the Earth Mother and all that would be very qualified to be a Paladin. If Cataclysm deals with such an upheaval of the world, then who else but the Tauren should carry the Earth Mother's message and do her bidding?
Seeing a Tauren paladin is about as weird as seeing a Worgen with claws using a fist weapon.
Seeing a Tauren paladin is about as weird as seeing a Worgen with claws using a fist weapon.
LOL, never thought of that. maybe they could have that as a racial, when no weapon is equipped, they still do damage equivilent to a green fist weapon of their aproximate level, but cannot be dissarmed!
That would only be good when disarmed because most people have blue weapons and purple later. Let's face it, what's the point in putting a dagger on your hand when you have huge claws?
Interesting conversation!
Something to Note: It is not odd that Blizzard gave the Horde the Paladin Class. Even table-top D&D has evil Paladins. They are called Anti-Paladins. Now, I understand that in our MMO WoW, there is no Anti-Paladin abilities or anything like that...yet but it interesting to note that there is the artistic license for them giving horde this class. Whether we like it or not and whether they give them different abilities or the same ones. Fact is, that is technically what they are as the Evil Ones. They are Anti-Light thus Anti-Paladin. It makes for great battles with the horde when I realize this concept.
Aren't Death Knights anti-Paladin? Meaning, aren't Arthas' DK's anti-Paladin? Plus, Tauren Paladin are hardly evil. If you compare Human with Tauren, Humans has committed many more 'crimes against humanity' and the world than Tauren whose most heinous crime would probably be the sport hunting of wildlife in and around Mulgore.
Then why not make up some new Horde class to compete with Paladins?
And maybe an Alliance class to compete with Shamans?
Blizzard is destroying its own lore with this!
Why are the populace of the horde faction thought to be evil?
Sure if this was the early days of warcraft 1 and 2 I would say the Horde is evil. Yet after playing warcraft 3 and WoW you notice the Horde itself is not what it use to be. The alliance is no longer uthers alliance either.
As for Tauren Paladins I think it's a weird choice not the wrong one by any means. I'm guessing it will have to with how the Blood elves have impacted there society just as the orcs impacted there society in Warcraft 3. The Tauren are some what of an impressionable race do to there lack of world knowledge. So a paladin may seem a weird choice do to there culture but not a non existent choice due to who is influencing them.
I'm glad to see the goblins coming back to the Horde. I miss them being there from the earlier two warcraft games. I'm superised that blizz iddn't go as far as to make a special class for them like goblin sucider. Then again who wants to play character that you have to recreate everytime you run into mob and light the fuse. It would be funny though.
Worgen look very cool as well and I wonder if there unarmed will do extra damage do to having claws.
Yes however weird some of the new class combinations may be it it blizzards job to continue there great game...
im very pumped to see the goblins a worgen coming to the game as playable toons. tauren palys may be weird but i can understand y they did this... simply put new class combinations are are blizzareds way of keeping it players around...
forget the lore for a sec and remeber y u r playing the game in the first place...
Sure but the one the aspects of this game being good and fun is EXACTLY its lore.
Sure but the one the aspects of this game being good and fun is EXACTLY its lore.
Your number one preference in gaming may be lore, but my number one preference in gaming is fun factor. From most important to least important:
- fun
- cool/epic
- music/sound/visuals
- lore
- physics/realism tidbits coinciding game type accordingly
If people argue about lore specifically, indeed, there are many things I dislike about the 'changes' or the factors that don't seem to meld well with the core story. However, it's no biggy.
I dont care either way, just more pally's to kill in BG's

There are draenei warlocks. Ever heard of eredar?
first, plz plz dont refer to deadmines as VC, makes no sense, like calling naxx10 KT10. also btw, why only 5 levels? isnt this just gonna make it like take ages from 80-81 etc. btw, why does blizz have 2 redesign EVERYTHING. i want my westfall 2 stay the same!
/cry
first, plz plz dont refer to deadmines as VC, makes no sense, like calling naxx10 KT10.
The reason is to differentiate between Deadmines and Dire Maul. Since Deadmines is one word, there is no abbreviation or shortened name that would make it recognizable easily and conveniently. Therefore, people refer to it by the boss at the end.
As for why they made only +5 levels, I am going to assume that it has to do with using the 5 levels to get your toons acquainted with the new world, without putting too much emphasize on trying to render level 80 gear completely useless again, as it did when WotLK came out for TBC level 70 gear.
erm... sorry about the btw spam
