once he droped a Assassin"'s Blade with a firey enchant on it

ZOMG ANYONE STILL RAIDING RAT IS A NOOB. IF YOU HAVENT' AT LEAST DOWNED SNAKE AND TOAD U NEED 2 L2P.

I got assasin's blade with mongoose on it. Farming these are hard though because they do so much damage.

ok just to let you know its impossible to only 5-man Rat. its a 20-man lvl 70 raid with at least 3 tanks and 4 healers just to be able to down him..make sure u all have at least T4 or T5 sets otherwise ur screwed

This is SO hard. Four of us all lvl 57, the burst damage is insane, TAKE HEALERS or you will get owned by this little bugger. My alt killed him though in a 10 man raid, he dropped assassins blade with mongoose, sold it in the AH for 15s so well worth the 3 hour raid

this things hudge i mean as a gnome he's half my hight. I tried taking him down on my own then he ganked me i ended busting all my epics any1 wana help me?

One of these aggroed me as I was running past. I managed to kill it (level 70 Draenei prot pally) but it hit me with a debuff: "Plague of Undeath" and 30 minutes later, I got turned into a Forsaken =(

umm critters have *allways* attacked back.  at least some of em, including fish and the tram rats

Amazingly, I managed to solo this.
After numerous failed attempts I was finally able to bring him down after I equipped this: http://thottbot.com/i13906

You're going to need to put a demonslayer enchant on it however.

tryed to 3 man this,were 2 fury wars,1 with t6 and warglaives of azeroth,im a fury war with 6 epics rest blue,we had a t4 holy priest,sadly the deadly AoE of his kept spamming for some reason,got it down to 9% then we almost died,priest made to buble and run all the way to Iron forge,the guard took him down and we were shocked that the guard's attack ourdrop was lost....trying again tomorow,heard of a rogue who soloed HOGGER is comming! omg i cant wait!!!!

seen that this can also be done heroic,that 1 i will try get 40 man raid,tho heard another raid offered to help but they only cleared black temple so will be no major improvements:(

Tried heroic today,those Black temple noobs ofc got wiped on the first hour of the battle,tho what can you rly expect from them? anyways we did the Black Rat for few more hours,and turns out in heroic mode it has a special new spell"cursed ratshit" it decreased stamine and AP by 65%,we tho finaly made it to kill it!!! dropped worn dagger,sadly i lost the roll agains some noob hunter,hunters dont need daggers,curse you all

I was waiting for a Kara raid in Duskwood, and I decided to have fun with these guys.  I put Curse of Doom on them and feared 'em.

Curse of Doom hit for 5094 damage.  It took away 1% of his HP.
I put CoD on again, but it was immune.  I Death Coiled.  Immune.
He attacked.  This is what my Combat Log said:
"Black Rat hits you for 9999 (glancing).
Hathuun hits Black Rat for 1.
Black Rat hits Hathuun for 15,982.
Hathuun dies."
Now I was paniced.  I popped my Defender of the Timbermaw.  Again:
"Timbermaw Ancestor's Healing Wave critically heals you for 700.
Black Rat hits Defender of the Timbermaw for 19,005
Timbermaw Ancestor dies.
Black Rat hits you for 25,000.
Your equipped items suffer a 10% durability loss.
You die."

So watch out.  You might need some sort of 40 man raid with really good healers to take these big meanies down...  :P
