OK. It IS Tameable. Ghost Saber is spawned by picking up the random cat figurines in the area Ruins of Mathrystra. KILLING it may drop the Ghost Saber summon, the summon is what people keep confusing that you cannot tame. This cat is just the same as a Snow Leopard but as the previous posts noted it is translucent. I'm a lvl 60 NE hunter and taming unique, rare and odd pets is one of my favorite pastimes. I have Rak'Shiri, Broken Tooth and Bloodaxe Worg. However in the last patch 1.12, Blizzard fixed the color changing unique-ness I loved about Bloodaxe, so I abandoned Worg and decided to find a new pet. A few days later I ran into a hunter with this pet, I have only seen one other hunter with this cat on my entire realm and i dimissed it as me just seeing a cat in Prowl. However I noticed her cat was only lvl 19. I told her "Your pet is awesome, but what is it?" She replied "a ghost lol" and I was instantly intrigued. After her telling me her story about her saber "Casper" I decided to get one myself. I headed to the ruins and picked up 8 cat figurines and it popped. I tamed it and was instantly impressed with it. It's a 2.0 Attack speed. Slow compared to my BT or Rak'Shiri but its color alone really makes up for it. I've been grinding with it got it to about 28 in about 3hrs in Felwood. I did notice a strange thing, on my way back to Auberdine, while on my mount blasting along the path, my cat (now named Zero) suddenly dropped dead. Nothing had aggro'd or attacked. I revived pet and fed him and went on my way. He's a great pet.

I think I've figured out why the Ghost Saber will die after taming for no reason. To get the cat, you have to open the figurines, which summons the cat through the game mechanic. The hunter then tames the saber, but there's probably a spawn, wait, despawn mechanic on the mob. So, at the time where the cat would have usualy despawned, he dies. However, because he's now your pet, you can res him. Both myself and a friend got these recently just for fun, and they both died after a couple minutes of being tamed. Since then, they haven't died. I think after you get past the spawn, despawn mechanic, you own the cat like any other pet.

I got mine tonight.  I was only 19 and the first one that spawned was 20 so i couldn't tame it.  Then the second one that spawned, the taming failed and I died when I attempted again.  Finally, on the third spawn, I tamed my new kitty with about 30 health to spare.  I had to collect about 30 statues to get the three spawns.

A couple of points to note:

You do not need to be on a quest to tame this cat.  There is a quest that involves collecting relics from the Ruins of Mathystra, but the cat figurine is not a relic and is interactive for anyone.

The cat randomly spawns when you open the statues.  The statues drop both dull figurines and bright ones.  The cat can spawn from either.

This cat remains translucent after taming but this is not an inherent prowl skill.  The cat moves at normal speed and does not have a harder-hitting opening attack.

My cat also dropped dead about 5 minutes after I tamed it, but was immediately revivable.  I like the earlier explanation about the spawn-despawn mechanic, as the cat is essentially a guardian of the statues and despawns automatically after a few minutes if you run away or stop the fight some other way.

i'm a 34 Orc Hunter on Lightninghoof and read about this cat after seeing it on another server. I got it to appear after getting 1 Figurine, good luck with yours too :D

Ghost Saber is tameable. Just keep your "trash" pet handy cause those mobs around the ruins are a pain. Put pet on passive right before you open a cat figurine, and if Ghost Saber spawns abandon the "trash" pet and start taming. He does retain the ghosty form after taming. Real cool!!

If you have to run away and heal up he does not dissappear. I had time to bandage up and retry the tame. Got him the 2nd try.

By the way it took 24 figurines for him to spawn for me.

1. required level 20+ (sabers are 19 and 20, they are rare enough so you won't want one to spawn that you can't tame yet... lvl 19 twinks need help killing the nagas or they might level up before being able to tame one)

2. bring your regular pet, you need to fight alot of nagas

3. bring enough food (meat), water, mana pots, health pots, bandages. a defense potion doesn't  hurt either (they hit hard and fast for lvl 20 mobs)

4. go to the very north part of Darkshore, Ruins of Mystara.

5. be patient, the statues are rare and hard to see (I found most of them on the outer rims of the area, and none down. needed 17 statues before a cat spawned)

6. when you find a cat figurine, clear the whole area around it (because you might need to retreat and come back quickly)

Then lay a frost trap (pet on passive), if a ghost saber spawns, let it go into the trap, quickly abandon your pet, and start taming.
This mob is hard to tame, I needed 3 attempts at lvl 60 !
If you fail an attempt and your health/mana is low, run away, recover quickly and try again
If you fail and the cat despawns and your pet is gone, you can simply tame a new cat north of the ruins. (~lvl 18)

7. enjoy your new pet ! it has a really cool transparent look, does nice damage and it move pretty fast too! I have never seen another hunter with this pet on my server o.O
mine died after a few minutes for no reason, but was instantly revivable and didn't die again.

i would like to clear up any misconceptions.  the cat skin is transparent not stealthed.  he will die 5 minutes (Approx) after you tame him. its fine just res and you are ok.  you collect the cat figurines from around the same area wher the naga's are.  they are placed on the floor in the area.  just open the statue when it opens there is a chance that the cat will appear it is different for everyone.  he is a great cat and i hope more of you can enjoy him as i do.  thanks bye.

Well, it took me about 2 hours but I got my cat!  It took 4 figurines for a ghost saber to spawn, which makes my lucky, but I had a hard time finding them.  They're always sitting next to a pile of rubble.

*NOTE*  After getting my first one, I found a second in the same place.  I thought this was normal and just piddled around waiting to it to respawn, nope.  You have to go search out the cat figurines, it's not that easy.  I suggest using eagle eye so you don't have to run around totally blind...

On my 4th figurine, I got the cat, but also got a naga... *&@^#*!!!  I died and ghost ran all the way back, expecting to be at the computer for another couple hours, but when I got to my corpse, the cat was waiting!  I bandaged quickly and then had try #2 at it!  Dropped a frost trap and tamed on first attempt... or second, but the first since I rezzed.  Cat immediately dropped dead, but after reading posts I wasn't worried.  I rezzed her and was set!

I was lvl 26 when I tamed this cat, but it's so cool and now that I've had her a while, I couldn't be happier!  In less than a week, I'm level 31 and she's about to join me in a half of a bar.

Not a lot of people have this cat because it is so much work, but I'm so much happier with Luthien than I was with my first cat (a nightsaber I got at level 10) or my raptor, Smaug.  I highly suggest taming this pet if you have the patience!  =)  I can seriously see myself keeping her for the rest of the time I play!

HERE WE ARE!

I hit 40 a couple days ago and this cat is still great!  I'm a draenei and hated the elek mount, so I farmed Darnassus rep for about a week (I did *ALL* the grey, beginning NE quests) and got exhaulted with Darnassus by level 36.  I got the spotted frostsaber mount and it looks pretty sweet!  Definitely cool with the matching mount.

Well, I started over on a different server as horde instead of alliance because I have RL friends there (I'm the dranei hunter who posted earlier on the page).  I decided to make another hunter (Tauren) because I really liked my old one.  I tamed Dishu at level 13 and I liked her well enough but By level 22 I was sick of her and decided to go back and get my old ghost saber again.

Last time it took me about 2 hours and 3 figurines.  I figured this time would be about the same.  NOPE!!  I had tamed one of the Moonstalker Matriarchs to the North of the ruins to help me out with all the nagas (I'm not quite ready to abandon Dishu yet).  Still, after my 15th figurine and 4th hour, I was starting to get really irritated, but not ready to give up yet.  I levelled all the way through 22 and hit 23 only on nagas (most of which were green for me).  Finally, on the 16th statue, something sprung my frost trap!!!  I quickly abandoned my temp pet and started taming the saber.  Once you find one, it's a piece of cake!  Luckily for me, it was a level 20 cat so that's one less level I have to raise it before we're the same level.



***The only advantage to spenging so long finding the figurines?  I know where they all spawn by now.***

• There's 2 places it can spawn in the first shallow pit to the left when you come in from the South

• 2 just to the North of that (one behind a sort of wall just to the north right before you fall into the big pit and the other to the left of the same pit where 2 nagas should spawn).

• If you go up the hill to the West, turn left and hug the edge of the biggest pit there are 2 different places it can spawn.  One is just past the actual ruins (where you can go down and it's glowing blue) to the right, the other is a little further north in a place where a broken wall creates a 90 degree angle.

•  The last place the state can spawn is down the biggest pit just as you go down the ramp to the right next to a broken pillar and a tin vein.

Hope this helps, sorry I didn't take any screenshots, just didn't think about it.  Hopefully my descriptions are helpful enough (Don't have and mods that give me cords or I would have just given you those.)

I found mine first try. So I felt bad and decided to make a guide for those not so lucky. =S And I also think that Thottbot should be for helping, NOT showing off, so I made this.

Below you'll find screen shots and cords. Hope these help. I found roughly 9 locations over an hour period. I know that there's 1 or two more because there was someone else there looking for them too when I was taking screen shots. But I found that most of them were either in the same spot, or just a few yards away.

I'm pretty sure that only one figurine is spawned at a time. But once you get the hang of it, they'll stick out from a mile away.

I heard the horror stories of people going 2 or 3 hours opening cats at lvl 19 to find either nothing or a lvl 20 cat, so i came prepared, had a large slurpee in hand, bag of dorito's on my side and enough time to search for my kitty. I get to the ruins, open a cat and it happens to be a level 19 ghost saber. All that preparation for the easiest tame i've ever done.

got it on the 11th try, just be patient

So I just tamed this on my 19 twink hunter. No help just hoping one would spawn b4 I had to stop because Id level. 4th cat I opened summoned one and a lvl 19 too! So I hurry and abandon my old pet, and start taming. Looking scary because its killing me at the same rate Im taming it. At the very last second I die and it looks like the cat despawned. I was SO pissed I spirit rezzed and whent to find some kind of stam buff. On the way I try to tame a crab just so that I have something. And I get the error that I already have a pet. First I think wtf. Then I call it and the saber is there! It actually killed me as I tamed it! So yeah thought it would make a good story lol.

Just got one :) Took me 2 hours and I leveled from 19 to 21 doing it. The Nagas drop some good stuff so patience is the key and as has been said, it doesn't matter how many figurines you have and the spawn is random. It was made easier with the frost trap (I actually tamed a 20 right after I went for level 20 training, spent the rest of level 20 getting his loyalty stacked up).
Bring lots of bag space for the stuff the Naga's drop, check the clams before you discard them for pearls and all that jazz. Some good mining and herbalism stuff to be had as well. Again the spawn rate varies, as some are saying they got him on their first figurine, it took me opening at least 30+. Be prepared and for sure have your pet on passive. He comes with claw 3, so that's one less thing you would need to teach. Save some meat to feed him, too! As far as him dying, yep that happened, he was running towards a selected Naga and went poof. Came back with a rez.

I got a ghost saber and for anyone out there who also wants one, here's how to get one:
First: if you dont already have some, get some lvl 20 meat/fish. ( I was a lvl 24 when I got mine, so I already had some.
Next: If you are lvl 30 or above, stable up your pet. If you are below 30 get out a pet you are prepared to lose, or stable your current pet and tame a random beast that's about your lvl if you dont want to give up the pet you have.
Then: Travel to the Ruins of Mathystra in Darkshore.
After that: If you are a dwarf, use find treasure, if you aren't, go to next step.
Next: Find these things lying randomly around the ground that look like statues of ghost sabers. If you are a dwarf, they will show up on your mini map because of find treasure. If you aren't, it'll be a little harder. (there are l20 naga everywhere, that's why those under 30 will need pets)
Then: open it like you would a treasure chest. If you are lucky, a ghost saber will spawn right in front of you, if it does, go to the next step. If a ghost saber doesn't spawn, you will get a cat figurine you can sell for 15 copper, and you'll have to do the last step and this one again.
After that: if you have a pet, abandon it. If you dont, skip this step.
Next: Tame it.
Then: feed it once and after five seconds, dismiss it (this will stop the bug that makes ghost sbers die randomly)
After that: Call it back, feed it till its happy, name it if you want to, then hearth and show off its sexiness to all the world.
( optional step): take a picture of your ghost saber and send it to a website call www.petopia.brashendeavors.net, where they have a photo gallery specifically for the majesty of the ghost saber.   

Got it from the first figurine ;) This cat is amazing! Guess it was a good idea geting it at lvl 20. Though had to have quite a run from The Barrens.

Okay, so I got this cat easily last night. Many of you are complaining it's too hard and etc, so here are some pointers to get that special cat.

• Bring a buddy or two! They can control the naga and help open Cat Figurines.
  

• If trying alone, bring a junk pet to control aggro, then abandon it after your saber spawns. **This is the way I got my cat
  

• Have potions/bandages ready if alone without a healer!
  

• Be PATIENT! It took me 21 tries, but I got one!
  

Tips after Taming:

• It is best you fish, that way you have food on hand.
  

I had the relic quest in the ruins so i was there collecting relics when i came across a cat figure. i had no idea what it was for but i decided to pick it up. A couple of seconds later i find another. I pick it up...and a Ghost Saber appears! Me and my pet started to attack..then i was thinking..what am i doing?! I abandon my pet then start to tame the saber. I got it. Then about 3 mins later..it dies. i had no food so i thought..he ran away? So i go and spend 15 mins trying to find another while the first one took less than 1. i finaly do and start to tame..when it says i already have a pet. I killed the saber, clicked revive pet...and my original sabers back! Wasted all that time and i already had it in less than 1min while on this post people said it took them 30mins - 2hours! But He's great! ^^
