You DO NOT need the complete set of SC to start this quest. But as it starts with bracers, i assume that if you dont have bracers, then you wont be able to start and you will only be able to quest as far as the order of SC items you have. eg: if the 3rd quest item is belt and you dont have it - you will not be able to go past this quest.

For Alliance. The quest starts in the dwarven kings chambers near the middle of the city, talk to a pretty young lady on the left as you go in.

She will ask you to collect blood off Sabertooths in Winterspring - They can be found to the north of the map.

You return to her with your 15/15 blood. She will then swap your SC bracers for the new DM Bracers and you will have to part with 20g. You do not get to keep the bracers - you hand it over!

She will then tell you a short story and 2 mobs atack you, kill them (real easy!) accept the next quest. This will take you to Gadgatzen where you pick up next quest.

--41 more Attack Power for Rogues from the greater Str and Agi (not too shabby when also combined w/ the new +40 AP set bonus - that's 81 more AP than the original Shadowcraft)

Side Note - I appreciate Blizz's work w/ the set bonuses on these new/updated armor sets...how you gain the set bonus back soon after losing it as the set bonuses from SC to DM are reveresed...that's a nice lil' bonus for everyone swapping out there armor.

So for those of us who are casual gamers and haven't got the time to grind in MC for Nightslayer, this is a vialble set.  Add a few choice enchants to this set (+Agi to gloves and boots - +4 to all stats on chest - get 2 librams for +AGI to head and legs and this set becomes almost as good as Nightslayer, but with lesser set bonuses.  For casual gamers, that's a nice upgrade, and can easily be attained through regular questing....not 40 man raid group farming.

How in the name of Zeus' butthole are you supposed to get to the Baron in 45 minutes wearing only Dungeon 1 set items in a 5-man? Blizzard said they nerfed the instance, but there seem to be just as many mobs now as there were before 1.10. I just finished a 5-man with some guildmates and we had a mix of blue and purple gear, some of it significantly better than Dungeon 1 set items and it still took us 30 minutes just to down the Baroness (1st miniboss in Strat UD).

And Blizzard expects us to get to the baron in 45 minutes from the second gate? Are they out of their minds???

My point is, unles you have already-heavily geared people willing to help you, you don't stand a snowball's chance in hell of finishing this quest in 45 minutes. And the point of this whole questline was to get people with no access to MC epics a chance to upgrade. The problem is, a 5-man geared in Dungeon 1 set items has no chance of finishing this quest in time. Plain and simple.

Either Blizzard made this Strat UD quest too difficult or they neglected to nerf Stratholme, which is pretty much the same thing. Blizz screwed up. I think Blizz rushed 1.10 too quickly and forgot to nerf the instances to make them easier for 5-man groups. As far as I could tell, Strat still has the same number of mobs as it did before 1.10. Expecting a 5-man group of ppl in Dungeon 1 items to reach the Baron in 45 minutes is completely unreasonable.

Blizzard screwed up. It's the only conclusion I can come to.

I completed this tonight without too much difficulty. I will cover the strategy.

        My group:
Guild PvP officer (Myself) - Feral Druid (dps for run) - Rank 10 pvp set
Guild Rogue officer - dps - Dungeon set 1
Guild Priest (non-officer) - healing - Incomplete Dungeon set 1
        Pick-up Mage - dps/aoe - dungeon set 1
        Pick-up Fury Warrior - aggro/dps - blues/greens

It took myself and fellow rogue officer a few nights to figure out the strategy, and there are some important rules.
        1. You must pull all the time. Stopping for loot and mana wastes too much time. We greed rolled for everything except for occasional need. Healer must have huge mana pool and should only be drinking when dps'ers are pulling easy mobs.
        2. You must skip as many mobs as possible. There are 1 or 2 groups of mobs by each ziggurat that can be avoided, in addition to a number of ghouls in between mini-bosses and the mobs outside of stitches zone.
        3. You must communicate effectively. Use TS or another service to keep group moving and to coordinate pulls.
        4. When you are done a run (likely the first will not be your last), look at your damage meter. Everyone but healer should be doing dps. If anyone is more than 7% below your best rogue, they should be dropped for next run and replaced with someone else who can put out more dps (only possible exception being the tank for bosses - who must still contribute a large amount of damage).

Wiping typically means you can't make it. For this reason my being a feral was very handy as I was able to make 2nd place on damage meter while having an emergency battle rez for tight spots, and could shift to bear mode to tank if warrior went down during fight.

Of interest to rogues is my conclusion that a tank-class might not be needed at all. With a feral druid, it is likely that you could replace main tank with a 2nd rogue and get the druid to tank mini-bosses and baron provided they can manage aggro. Also, lots and lots of potions can help too.

Don't abuse on heals and AoE to save mana. Don't stop to loot bosses, use the need/greed system built into the game. Skip evey pull that you can skip. Those little things are enough to make the run in 45 min. If you can do it less than 30 with a 10 man on the non-nerfed instance, you can do it in 45 with 5 man on the nerfed.

Yah...... I'm of the opinion that this run is next to impossible with a pug and without vent/TS.  I tried it with about 4-5 pugs and one of them was semisuccessful at 50 mins.  Finally a few of my guildies caught up to this point in the quest with me and we roped a mage and priest from our guild in as well.

1 DPS Fury tank, wrath helm/quel and bunch of MC epics
1 Prot tank, lots of MC epics, also with wrath helm and quel
1 frost mage, lots of MC epics,
1 Priest (not sure spec), lots of MC epics including Benediction
Me 50% combat, 50% subtlety rogue, 5 epics, none of them MC (DM gloves, felstriker, onyx tooth pendant, darkmoon card: maelstrom, shifting cloak)

We did the first run as almost a practice run and wiped once due to us accidentally aggroing a group of mobs we were trying to skip.  The second run, baron went down with 2 minutes left.  What I'd recommend is kind of like what we did.  Take the same group twice and don't even watch the timer the first time.  Take your time and map out a mobgroup path.  While Malleki himself is easy, the pathing through the mobs just after him is probably the trickiest part.  As they said earlier, let casters/healers drink while melee takes the easy pulls.  Also, to save yourself some time, we were having our priest give our mage a bubble and take the whole ziggurats on his own while the 3 melees and the priest moved onto the next groups of mobs.

I really have no clue how Blizz expects a group in full Dungeon Set 1 to complete this.  Our second run, we didn't F up once and as I said, we only had 2 minutes left.  Sure, this would be easy for full Tier 2, but for Dungeon Set 1 going for DS2 I think it's crazy.  The feeling of accomplishment you get when this is behind your back is like none other, though.  Good luck.

Did 45 min run last night with my guild. Easy.
        we had all 60's:
        1 warrior
        2 rogue's
        1 paladin (me)
        1 priest
Tactic is easy: Go for DPS and never stop. We didn't loot but u can since we had time enough.
First kill the spider, then the banshee, then the humanoid. That way u can skip most mobs. Be sure to pull the next group before the previous one is down. After each of the three bosses u got just enough time to take a mana drink while the rest starts pulling again.
After the humanoid things will get fun: all drink a swiftness potion (they should be easy to get), rogue's don't of course. Then from the humanoid boss ALL RUN PAST THE GATE (where the venom belchers are and that closes after u pull the first 1. Once u pass it, the paladin has to DI (divine intervention) the priest (or druid). All die and the priest will rezz. This way we skipped at least 6 mobs.
The rest should be easy since it's the normal way to do a baron run.

Keep in mind that u need a paladin for this that knows how to use DI and some swiftness potions. Other tip, get a enchanter to join since u can't take time to loot bosses. Boss drops every1 passes, the enchanter greeds and if some1 needs they just need. After the run the enchanter can DE all and every1 can roll for that.

last but not least, to let u know how easy it was:
45 minutes-spider-banshee- WE WHIPED!! -humanoid-rammstein-baron ==> 5 minutes left (so we did it in 40 minutes with a whipe!!)
DON'T GIVE UP IF U WHIPE, IT'S STILL POSSIBLE!

This is a note to those interested in making it quicker. It requires a healer and a Warlock or Druid battle rez. After the last zig (pally boss), SS the healer, pop swiftness potions and run like hell to the last gate. Rez up and fight the aboms. This will skip at least 4-5 groups of mobs. We did it and had 15 minutes to kill Ramstein, skellies etc. Hope that helps

I deleted my last post because it was long and it boiled down to the following points:
          1. DM not worth the effort.  Set bonuses are the same as SC.  Set bonuses are actually worse since the good stats are at the wrong end.  That chance to add energy happens about once per three fights.  Bonus in stats is minimal.
          2. SC should be green.  SC is not the best equipment a casual gamer can get.  Most blue items are better.
          3. The upgrade is 20+ hours of un-fun farming and running around.  Once you’re done, you will not be anymore entertained by the game.
          4. If you are a casual gamer like me (less than 8hours a week) devote your time to the NS set.  It doesn't take much longer than DM.  You'll want to upgrade to NS immediately following the last DM piece you get anyways.

I look at it like a form of entertainment and if I'm not entertained I'm wasting my money.

Possible solutions to what I see as a problem:
          1. Make the SC and DM set better.
          2. Make the upgrade more entertaining while keeping it 'difficult'.  Something that is difficult is completely different than something time consuming and remedial (farming). One possibly would require the player to duel the quest giver one on one.  The quest giver would of course be hard to kill and matched to the classes weaknesses.  Then sent the player on a quest that challenges the class talents…in the rogues case stealth run…pickpocket items with hound patrols roaming and traps to detect and disarm (It would be nice to actually use that skill).  All solo.

I'm sure someone will argue with me, but hey...it's just my opinion.  If you have a better idea or reason to argue please at least post your reasons instead of the ol’:
U SUX BTW. REROLL A HUNTER!! L8TR NOOB!!

Thanks for spending the time reading my complaint.

          Neva fear!!
          They buffed the PvP gear!!!
lol. Seriously, i like the DM gear, the 2/8 set bonus of +8 to all resists is sick, thats why I'm wearing just the bracers and gloves. (That, and the fact that i neva really collected SC bak in the day). Just go for a balance, you neva need to choose 8/8 of this set, or 8/8 of that. Just get as many good items without being greedy, and god sakes dont rush it. Rogues do fine against 8/8 Tier 2 ppl with just having a handful of epics, we prolly benefited the most from the Tier .5 upgrades.
ps. Disarm traps is used in BWL for one boss. *cough* Not the boss himself ... but its used LOL. I dont know if you can pick pocket teh epix tho. hehe

I've loved this set.  Our guild has grown and I've worn this armor for a bit now and it has been a big help.

I've done what I could to boost it with enchants, put the ZG enchant on the legs, +7 Str to bracers, +3 to stats on the chest, +7 agility on gloves and for fun the minor speed enchant on boots.  I'm going to try to get another zg enchant for the head and when I get exalted that ZG enchant to shoulders.

I didn't go for stamina because I like to play my rogue for max damage.

However, I've started switching out items for raid.  I currently put on the Madcap shoulders and the Boots of the vanguard from AQ20.  Though I'll switch the full DM set back on when I'm soloing for dodge chance increase.

Now that we are in MC and will be doing Ony, I'm noticing how the improvements to that gear is not a huge boost.  Just making me realize how good this set is.  And since I'm the only rogue with the gear I'm planning on letting other rogues get their NS stuff first and I'll only be aiming for the BF hood and leggings when we down rag.  Eventually I'll collect 5 pieces of NS, but I don't want to bother much cause for me the difference between NS and BF is PvP vs PvE.  Though an upgrade is an upgrade.

I'm also glad that the tier 3 armor will have an +energy set bonus.  Because that does wonders for me now.  I'm not looking forward to wearing newer armor with out that bonus lol  I can count on my hand how many times I've popped a thistle tea in the last 2 months.

imo, that is understandable, the horde rogue set looks fairly shoddy.  the alliance looks ok tho, although not much differance from marshall's vestment and leuiutennant commander's vestment (the bootes look different in game, that is all)

The SC/DM sets are good, well-balanced sets for rogues. Sure, the stats are not as good as the T1+ sets, but they are good nonetheless. The AGI and STR bonuses in conjunction with the +40 AP help make this set put out some respectable DPS, especially with the new rogue talent tree (Subtlety +15% Agi). Also, the +35 energy proc is helpful in a way that can not be measued. It procs often, I'd say about once every 20 hits or so, and helps put out that 5 dotted Eviscerate that much quicker, or helps you get in another Sinister Strike 5 seconds before you were expecting it. The quests to upgrade to this set are a bit expensive, but they are also challenging and fun.

DM is decent, well-rounded armor. Combine it with some +AP/STA/crit trinkets and jewelry and you have a great set for PVP or PVE (though a bit more stamina would make it much better for PVP).

Would I like to upgrade to T1/T2?- of course. They ARE better sets. Unfortunately, I don't have time to run MC/BW etc... Let alone put up w/all the bs that goes along with belonging to a serious guild that would run these instances regularly and succesfully. To boot, there is a lot of competition out there for the T1+ sets. Once you've got the full SC set, you can get this set at your own pace, without worrying about ninjas or someone outbidding you on the T1+ items.
My only complaint about this set is how it looks. Blizzard could of put a bit more effort into it. They just changed the color of the SC armor and made it glow in certain areas (seems a bit counter-productive for a rogue).
I've got 3/8 right now and am working on the 45min. baron run. can't wait to get the boots, pants and shoulders.

Helpful suggestion: get an extra pair of SC bracers so you can still get the 6piece energy proc bonus once you get the DM gloves and belt.

Respect to anyone who has this set. Farming instances to get the Shadowcraft set is bad enough. Not to mention doing just as many instances afterwards, collecting the oddest of mats and traveling the world 80 times over for the upgrade.

Farmed this out just now at lvl 80. It's a royal bitch as a rogue to do Scholo since you don't have spells, but I got lucky with the helm.

Otherwise this set is a royal bitch to get. I spent about 8 hours alone just traveling/figuring out/getting oldschool mats in order to upgrade.

The result? Great. I have an entire lvl 60 set with full darkmantle that is really freakin great looking, but this set is not for the weak-hearted. It takes a lot of farming for  the SC to drop and even more work with the quests. Mostly are soloable. You definitely want a mage buddy for this (portals).
