Some of the posters were asking whether skinning is a worthy money-maker or not. First of all, we should all remember that primary professions are divided into gathering and "manufacturing" profissions. Skinning, herbalism and mining are gathering professions. As a gloden rule, gathering yields money more than manufacturing. Why? Let's think about it. When gathering items and offering them in the auction house, other higher lvl players will most likely be the most potential customers. That's because they don't have the time nor the patience to go gather their ingridents themselves. But hey, they have LOTS of money =D! I have a priset lvl 47 on Daggerspine (aka Laggerspine) and my skinning skill is 281 atm. It is my bread :)! I can totally support myself through skinning only.One time I was able to earn alot of money (around 17 Gold) by cornering the AH. My second profession is tailoring and it is a good example of a medium (or even low) money-making profession. It is not as good as skinning in making gold since it requires lots of cloth that I could have selled in AH and other ingredints. So, for all who r wondering whether skinning is a good money-maker.... Yes it is !! If it was up to me, I would go for 2 gathering professions. Most probably skinning and mining.
Skinning is a pretty good money maker, just today i started train as a skinner and i made about 3 gold in 1 hour, thats not too bad, but my skinning level is only at 125, so i was mainly selling light leather in the AH. I also have Herbalism its not too bad, i am thinking about going back into Mining. I made a not bad amount of money with that, but just wanted to try something new
I have a hunter that has skinning and I make tons of $$ on AH with the leather and stuff...It just also depends if people looking need what your selling atm..
Skinning is Very easy and Very effecient. and makes cash Very fast. i honestly dont know why you would spend hours running around looking for Ore Veins or wait for them to respawn... when you can hunt (gain exp) and skin (gain money)... i have only started skinning yesterday and my skinning level is at 181 (Master Skinner).

And if ur char is based on money making, skinning + mining is just incredible.
I hated mining and dropped it for skinning. I swear I have hardly taken 10 steps out of the AH before I see "A buyer has been found for your auction of ...." I run Auctioneer every few days just to keep track of prices.
Skining is easy and a great money maker, on the other hand mining involves slightly more work but gives you loads of cash and is most definitly worth it.

Gurrak...your crazy.....yes you can make 12g per daily, but your limited to how many dailys you can do each day....and you are definatley 70 to be doing dailys...what else have you got to do at level 70 when not doing raids or instances. These comments are for those serious about making money with their skinning...you obvioulsy are not. I would make a bet with ya.....I can easily make more in one day than you skinning compared to your dailys. Sounds like your just to lazy to put effort into your money making. Just cause your 70 dosent mean that gold is just going to jump into your lap.
Gotta agree, daily's are great and all, but real money comes from ur skillz, as a skill or a player, its like depending on ur quest for gold while u lvl, do-able, just not how I(rest of the worlD) would see it
firts off how do u make money as a skinner and what lvl do u have to be to get some good skins because i am getting heavy leather and medium leather so ya ty man..
Id say around 200..Or the levels where u can get thick and heavy leather..and to make money you sell the heavy and thick leather on the auction house
depends how much of the light leather you r selling but if u r fine with just putting it on place a bid at a low price it'll go up for certain!

Depends on alot of different factors.
Look at the prices that other stacks of leather are going for and base it off that.
Or just download the Auctioneer add-on and use it. Prices can vary a lot depending on the server you're running on, the demand at that particular time, the number of players who are gathering/farming that particular resource, even the time of the week so you need to work out what's best on your particular server - which is where tools like Auctioneer are a godsend.
FYI, when my toons were at that level, I was selling stacks of light leather for 1G MINIMUM, which is a lot for a character at that level with no higher level alts/friends to throw money at him.

If you are only around level 100 in skinning, you just need to carry on killing beasts, gaining the XP and improving your skill at the same time.
A good investment is larger bags, as well as an AH Mule (a character that sits between the mailbox and the AH) and the Auctioneer Add-On.
With these things, some time and a few quests to boot, your skinning will get better meaning you will make more money as you get better leathers.
I found on my server Alonsus i didnt make much until i was selling stacks of Medium Leather or higher, however your server may vary.
Keep at it and you will reap the benefits after a while, skinning can make you a ton of gold :)
It really depeneds on what Your characters main level is...If it is well over 30,Then go to darskhire and kill the Wolves..You can skin em at level 90 - 100
kill everything ,skin everything,leave nothing,you'll need it later.
Choose two gathering skills on your main.
Then make an alt account and set it on two manufacturing skills, any leather/ores/herbs that arent worth much just send to your alt and it can train proffesions as well. :)
but you have to level up your alt to train your professions and make use of the higher lvl gathered stuff

I don't get why people wouldn't think of skinning as part of a money making scheme. First off when you kill something a lot of times you can skin it. Also you can follow higher level groups and skin their kills. Once you have stacks of leather and scraps what to do with it? AH? NO!!!! Mail it of to an alt that's a leathworker and/or tailor. They then process it. Sell it yet? Maybe. Some of those items will be foder for the enchanter alt. Send those off to that alt, otherwise sell em off. What this means is no spending money for mats in the AH. Yeah you could make a bit more selling the mats... maybe, but you bring several toons up to levels that are useful in their professions. Don't look at skinning by itself. It's a gathering profession, and should be used to feed your own toons that have manufacturing profesions.
if you take up skinning/leatherworking you'll end up using all your skins to increase your leatherworking skill...the catch is most mats make more gold than the item itself...but it's still fun...and once your lw skill is high enough hopefully more gold should come in...

heavy knothide leather (need leatherwork to amke these)
these leather are sold like 60-80 G for stack of 20 ...
all u have to do is kill some beast ..OR skin the one death :P
and put it on AH... lvl 70 leatherwork buy them like hot bread...
u can alsoo skinn some special like.. wind scale,clefthide leather,fel hide.. these are sold more then 5G each !
and if ur lucky enout to find cobra scale... these are sold 20G each in AH (cause they fucking gay drop rate ... (0.1/100) )

Skinning is a REAL MONEY MAKER!!! I have a level 60 hunter who has both skinning and minning at pros. My skinning is at 375 and I find that selling leather at AH is great. You dont always have to sell full stacks of 20 to make the biggest return. As mention above, killing monster that yeild skinning is great for xp, and money, especially dragonkin, money drop, leather and xp!!
Started Skinning around 2 Hours ago,Skinning level is around 80 - 100.My friend said that He just kept getting medium leather and sold it all (I think he had 120 peices of medium leather) And it sold for 15 gold.Hes level 151 or something though
in my experience LW starts off kinda slow as far as money making cause your making things to build your level , but as you get higher the items sell for more and the skinning side brings some good cash if you find a spot to farm. the rage claw bears in fellwood drop thick leather and you can kill them with out to much trouble around 47 -50. on my server im still trying the market as to how much people will pay for a stack(20) of thick leather ...so far 4g25s.
also there are places that everyone has to go to get quest items. its supprising how many people kill take the drops and leave the skins...e.g. STV the gorillas have giblets for a Q, scaring shakey i think, so anyone leveling goes to misty vale to get the giblets-hoard and alliance both. i made a grip of cash at a level too low to efficiently kill those gorillas just by following higher lvls around and helping and healing them and taking the skins they left. and on occasion there are several people competing for the mobs so you can just run back and forth skinning as fast as you can go ...pure gold!!!
Un'goro has a cave with gorillas great for thick and rugged leathers alike.Winterspring has a cave full of yetis even better for ruggeds.The great thing about caves is there is always someone questing there or mining there ,for EVERY cave has mining rocks ,they kill -then mine -you skin!
8.5 gold on a low day, but often it's at least 12G on my server.
once u hit 350 skinning, and ur at nagrand, the way i made over 500g in 2 days was by hanging around hemmet nessingwary and offering to help people with the mastery quests, IF i can skin their stuff they kill. suckers. i get scraps, knothide, heavy knothide, and thick clefthoof. $$$ really easy. I <3 Nagrand and skinning. this profession is the second best for money making. Minging is probably the best profession to have while u still need to grind and level. Mining and herb are perhaps better. dunno. i <3 skinning though.
Last toon (b4 sold) was 70 hunt, heavy cleft stacked up in bout hr, usually for 70-90G a stack, ++ random greens that either AH'd or just DE and went on my way, could average 150G+ in Nagraand, horde or no horde, just steady killz. New toon, also hunt, has skin/hrb, and I easily keep new gear/weapons/enchs/mounts w/ out probs. Farm boys, farm.
I have skinning & Mining on a lvl 40 pally, seems to work really well.
Two advantages with skinning.
Not everyone has it so there can be lots of corpses lying round to skin without needing to kill first, I can often be seen lurking like a buzzard near someone else's melee waiting to see if they skin their mobs when they're done... If not, in I go.
Secondly, and I know this is probably a bit naughty, the Bots that mooch around killing stuff (have names like "xzkkfkndxz"), you can follow one of those around and skin all the corpses he leaves behind. I filled up all my bags with decent leather following one of those arouns Arathi a while back.
I am 375 mining and Skinning. Between these and doing my dailys I average 200-300G per day.
I can average 5-6 stacks of Fel Iron and 2-3 stacks of admantite in a couple hours of farming. This alos dosent include the motes I get and the Jewels too from mining . I alos End up with 5-6 stacks of assorted leather from killing beasties that interefer with my minning.
I have an Alt that is BS and LW so If I need something then I send it to him I have him make low level things for my kids characters. Mainly though If I want something made I just send my guildies the mats.
Gathering is going to be the best money makers for you especially Skinning and Minning. Also your guild should have people that have BS/ armor/ weapon, LW, Alchemy, Enginering. As gatheres we feed the guild bank and then the whole guild prospers. I send about 25% of my gathered daily mats to guild bank then AH the rest. If I really grind hard 6-8 hours I am usually sitting on 700-1000G. I have set routes in the outlands and use a gatthering mod. Sometimes though you may have to watch the market (AH). Certain times of the week it gets flooded and certain times of the week are better for posting to AH .
Then there is also the AH NOOBS who sell thigns below market price that I snatch up and resell.
i have to agree with the fact that skinning is a good money-maker .... i made 90 gold in 2 days of of leather alone .... yet then again that was alot of leather farming but it payed off and still is
i would most definatly call skinning a money maker i have made lots of money in one day (if u have the bag of many hides 24 slots full of leathery goodness it goes a bit faster)but i can make a decent 50-75g a day skinning at lvl 42 it might take a while but i would get it down,besides that ur farming area might hold other treasures besides the leather ;)
As a side note as above stated,Bag of Many Hides is a must for any skinner.Put it in your bank and you get 24 slots that hold all Primals and Motes,salts,scales,and your skins of course.This is the best investment you can make as I have 2 of them in my bank slots and they are constantly filled.Even if you dont think you will need the extra slots trust me you will eventually.
Hey skinning is a great money maker because Blacksmiths, Tailors, Engineers, and Leatherworkers all need leather to make items. I was also the only skinner ona run through Sunken Temple and off the skins I got in there I made 30g at AH. The gold just comes and like someone else said I get messages within 15 minutes of posting on auction that I have a buyer for multiple auctions. Shadow cat hides go for around 2g a piece which is very nice.
hey guys. I think skinning is an awesome money maker.
I run the barrens for at least an hour a day getting skins and Wailing caverns is also an awesome spot.
My skinning is now just over 200.
My gold is at 257. no bad for a lvl 27.
I Also fish alot.
I'd say a few things determine what makes money and what doesn't.
Demand - When I started doing Skinning/LW, I bought all my leather off of the AH all the way up to Knothide. Stacks and stacks of leather. No matter what kind of leather you put up, I'm fairly certain someone will buy it.
Knowing the Market - learn which items sell quick that LW's make and concentrate on flooding the market with the appropriate leather. See if the other mats are in abundance on the AH, then undercut the lowest auction by a good amount and you'll make quick cash. Works the other way too... If theres a shortage of a certain type of leather that you have a lot of, up your price and gouge your customers. =) If they think they need it that bad, they'll pay for it. When the market gets an influx of that mat, lower the price.
Id say this could be true with every mat available on the market. Being shrewd will fill your coffers.
for low level chars i thing skinning and leatherworking until you get a high skinning level because 80% of the time lol level skinners only get ruined leather scraps so you can make even more leather

i repicked skinning, i had tailorer/ench. got skinning to lvl 300 in 2 and half hours.. totally worth it huge money maker.. the first thing you could skin uhm. "light leather" was 1g per stack in ah.. prize that linen cloth stack could never gain.. i had tailoring 370 but it wasnt really profitable.. mean you dont need high level tailorers as much as leather... skinning will prolly be nice money maker in wtlk also as everyone wants to lvl up lw...

Hi I got lvl70 dwarf hunter (reddwarf) and i just want to say that skinning is the easyest way to make Gold in wow i mean i do dailys i do 16dailys each day get about 180g for it but when im done doing daily's and the is no groups for instance around i go out and Grind [Thick Clefthoof Leather] u want to no why Beacuse on my sever that's 70-80g per stack on a bad day + the stuff u get to sell from the mobs u have to kill when grinding it its ebest thing ever can make about 480gold in like 4h easy
so u only have to grind once twice a week to make enoth G for me and my alts easy and u still got time for That all inportent raiding and pvp :)
