I went Aldor due to the fact that I picked up JC as my processing profession and the trainer was on the aldor rise.

Which side you pick matters, as one side is geared more towards PvP (scryer) and the other PvE (aldor).

Once becoming past revered with a faction would make it REAL rough to go back to the other faction, as each quest/rep turn-in not only gives you rep for your side, but gives you more negative rep for the other faction then you get postive rep for the faction you just turned whatever items/quests in for.

Damage gear, wpns, etc are more on the Scryer side.  I think they have more tailoring patterns as well.  I know they need Arcane Tomes and Sunfury/Firewing Signets. 

Healing gear, tanking gear, and your jc trainers (and more plans) are on the Aldor side.  The Aldor uses Fel Armaments and Marks of Sargeras/Kil'Jaden.

Both the Signets/Marks are turned in on your respective factions Rise/Tier in Shat city and reward you rep for your faction and negative rep for the opposing faction.

Turning in a quest/rep item which is similar to your level should roll you over to the next rep level (i.e. friendly, honored, revered, etc.)

Q1: Why can't I turn in certain Signets/Marks even though they are for my side?

A1: Until level 68, I couldn't turn in the Marks of Sargeras ANYWHERE on the Aldor side (as the marks are for them, see above).  As soon as I dinged 68, the same guy who takes the Marks of Kil'Jaden started accepting the Marks of Sargeras in the same fashion (one at a time for a small amout of rep, 10 at a time for a larger portion of rep per turnin).  I'm 99% sure the upper level Signets for Scryer work the same way.  Also, once I reached level 70, I no longer have the option to turn in Marks of Kil'Jaden (the equivalent of the lower level Signets, unsure which of the 2 is lower).  At that point they became AH fodder.  I would turn in ANY of the lower rank marks you have saved BEFORE dinging 70.



Q2: What the hell is Holy Dust (given after the turnin of a Fel Armament for Aldor, unsure of what the name is for the Scryer equivalent of turning in an Arcane Tome, but it works the same) for?

A2: Go to the npc NEXT to the quartermaster for your faction in your factions bank in Shat.  That person will sell you shoulder enchants, which cost 2 Holy dust for the first level at honored, and 8 for a much better enchant at revered, also shoulder.

Aldor seems to be the way to go for AP happy class's, such as Wars/Rogs/ret paladins/feral druids/hunters. Aldor has better Physical dmg enchants, while Scyer has better caster enchants. I wouldn't care about the weapons/gear, as they'll be replaced sooner or later, the Enchants are the only thing thats forever.  If you're one of the above class's, Aldor is the way to go. Scyer is for better caster enchants.

Even then, Aldor has a Sword thats better then Scyer dagger for a Fury war or DW Hunter. Keep in mind the Consortium+Keeper of time daggers are both better, in both dps+max hit, so Scyer dagger is utterly worthless. So a Dagger rogue can reap better enchants of Aldor, while still getting the best rep Daggers, since neither are on Scyer.

In point of fact, your class, talent spec, and professions will all have a bearing on your choice.

Don't let anyone tell you which to choose, unless they are an expert on all aspects of your character (and your heart!).  Review the rep rewards, and especially the recipes, before deciding for yourself.

In the end, you may re-spec your talents or change professions, so all your anguish over which faction to choose may have been for naught.

Ccurrier said that Marks of Kil'Jaden and lower lv marks of Scryers can't be used to gain reputation at lv 70, well the thing is you can. You just can't turn in past honored so don't worry hitting lv 70 just because you want rep with them. Another point is it dosn't matter wich one you choose, there's no *PvP* or *PvE* side, it all depends on what's your class and profesion.

- I would suggest a healing class with tailoring to go Aldor because of the Thread they can make on legs wich will give you healing and stamina. A caster (damage dealer) with tailoring should go to Scryers for the other Thread on pants, damage and healing done + stamina as well. The only bonus if you are tailoring and don't really care about the Thread would be the fire resistance gears you can craft by going to Aldor. It's the only profesion without the arcane resistance gears equivalent on Scryers, so Aldor would be a good choice if you don't know anyone who can make the fire resistance gears.

- If you are a blacksmith or a Letherworker, it's your call, you just have to choose between arcane resist and fire resist gears. for now they are both used equaly so it's a 50/50 choice.

- If you are a Jewel Crafter, I think you might learn all you can with the grand master first before choosing your path because I think he's on one side only, you don't have to choose a reputation side right away anyway so take you time learning all you can from him. Note that you dont have to choose a faction right away, you can wait till lv 70 and it won't change anything. But there's patterns on both sides so I'd recomend you to go and see the vendor inside the bank on each side before choosing.

- If you are an Alchemist, go Scryers, but it's only an Elexir of Fire Power. It will only get the damage done by fire spells up by 65 for 1 hour. Nothing else for you but it's still good for mages/warlocks.

Now, if you don't have a profesion and you are wondering which path you should take, you can always choose depending on the profesion you will want to take as it could be helpful. If you don't really care about your profesion, just go with what items you'd want best even tho they aren't easy to get and that you will surely have to change them with something better later on.

Note that the only thing that may change is the Inscriptions wich work like enchants so basically you can't put an enchant + an inscription item. You get these in exchange of the items you get for turning in the Arcane Tomes and Fel Armaments. Theres slight differences between both faction but work the same way. Also there's a FP for each faction depending on wich one you choose. They are both in Shadowmoon Valley. Scryers' one is South East at the Sanctum of the Stars and the Aldor one is North East at Altar of Sha'tar. so if you want to travel faster, I'd recommend Aldor for Alliance and Scryers for Horde, but it's really the last reason you'd want to choose them for. You only need friendly with the faction to be able to use the flight path.

The only way to change reputation is by doing a repeatable quest in Lower City, but it's long, really long. I'd recommend doing it only if you want to change reputation side and have a LOT of time to spare or when you first choosed your side and find out you want to go with the other one wich will take some time anyway. I'm not sure what is the minimum lv required to be able to turn in the lower marks/signets but even if it's lv 62 like said before, I don't know why you'd want to farm reputation right away. And if you can't before lv 62 but wants to get reputation, just grind till lv 62 by farming the signets/marks and you'll be just as happy. don't remember that you can't turn them in past honored so you'd want to farm the lower ones till honored before turning in all your greater marks/signets or Fel Armaments/Arcane Tomes because they are harder to get. I think that covers it all.

NPC to which you deliver dampscale basilisk eyes is called Sha'nir and she is in Lower City 61,15.

firewing and sunfury signets are turned in to the scryers to increase rep with them , firewing and sunfury drop off the blood elves . for aldor rep you need to turn in the marks of kil'jaedan and marks of sargeras , these drop off the demons in netherstorm , SMV and blades edge mountains. past honored , you want to start turning in arcane tomes for scryer rep and fel armaments for aldor rep. hope  this helps.

am exalted with aldor , real nice FR pl8 items and and a kick ass sword and tanking chest piece - not sure what scryers offer but for warriors i suggest you go with aldor.

To answer the above... Gaining reputation with the Aldor or Scryers for DKs isn't as important as it used to be, because the gear you get won't be used for that long a time.

But it can still be good, if you want any of the special weapon/armor/shoulder enchants or recipes they have, because Death Knights start at 55, you can start gaining rep (and gear) for Aldor at 60, and WotLK and Northrend only have gear for players 70-80. So yeah, lots of levels you'll find some use for their gear. If you take the trouble.
