You don't have to be friendly to enter the caverns of time. You just need to do the escort type quest outside the dungeons, and then you must complete them in order. For instance, you cannot enter Black Morass unless you have completed Durnholde.
Karazhan attunement does not start here.
As far as I know, only one step of the quest line to get your master key involves CoT.
I ran Durnholde 2.5 times and Black Morass once, and I need about 4000 reputation until revered, to give you an idea.
Rumors are that an additional run of the Black Morass nets you something between 1000 and 2000 rep.
To get kara keyed you need to go outside karazhan do 2 quest go to... shadow labs arcatraz... and steamvaults. after that you complete the black morass event and talk to mediv, for the last part of the quest.
If i am already revered with Keepers of time will i still get rep if i run old hillsbrad or only from BM? Can anyone tell me for sure either way?
Yes, you still receive rep in Durnholde Keep when you are revered.
I would be surprised if the same is not true for Black Morass as well.
can you run in , pick up a beacon, throw it on first rift and get 50rep for the kill, run out and reset? I'm like 120 rep from revered and dont feel like running it lol.

Also, it says that all of the non-elite swamp creatures that you clear before the event give 50 rep -- that can't be right can it? I'm assuming they give no rep, otherwise you could just solo farm to exalted.
No, the non-elites do not give reputation... I farm leather off them. =D
well im going to give the beacon a try...guess you can start the event...wait a couple mins till adds are attacking the big guy...drop the drag and watch what goes down
Tried throwing a beacon on a rift lord solo... he was killed/dismissed/left at about 50% on the Rift Lord. I can't solo a half health rift lord. So my impression is that a single beacon on a Rift Lord won't work to gain rep.
Perhaps with a couple of people adding damage, but I couldn't do enough solo to kill him before the Beacon dragon was gone.
I threw a beacon on him, and also did all out dps, the dragon went away when he had about 5%, and i managed to get him down. Warlock in mostly blues.
I did this with a friend, damn near died on the first rift lord, using one. We couldn't eat or drink because the adds were still on medivh, but tried again and died on the second rift lord. However, with 2 people it seems entirely possible especially if you can use 2 beacons on the same rift lord (haven't this). You get 50 rep for the rift lord. This might be viable if you need ~500 rep or less to get an item or something, but other than that you're better off finding a group and doing it again.
also you need the keepers of time rep ( need to be reverd) to take the key from ventor for the heroic runs in caverns of time!
Keepers of Time is the faction in control of the Caverns of Time and the instances in it (Old Hillsbrad, and Black Morass) The only way I know of to get Exalted (or any rep at all) with them is to run the Caverns of Time instances and do their quests.
The Caverns of Time can be found in Tanaris. There is a mountain in about the middle of the coast area (west of the pirate cove). Approach it from the west and there's a path leading into the mountain.

been trying to get exhalted. went into bm solo 70 rogue started the rifts and when the sheild was at 60% i dropped a beacon got rep few 100 then tried on heroic no rep at all.. sucky anyways back at the normal they all started to evade so careful.
You start this rep when you go to the Caverns of Time in Tanaris. Its the cave this that is sticking out on your map. Talk to the giant dragon at the entrence. Beware of the 51, 61 and ?? dragons (elites).
The 'confused' dragons you mention are hold-overs from the opening of the Ahn Quiraj gate a year ago. Tick (the 52) is north of the path to the caverns, and Anachronos (the ?? boss) is to the south. Both are far enough away to not aggro anyone on the path to the caverns.
I say confused because at one time they kept people away from the caverns of time and are theoretically part of the time-dragon group......the ones inside the caverns certainly seem to be extremely anxious for adventurers to help them....the ones in the hot sun just seem to still be angry.
At one time Anachronos was a quest-giver for those who were pursuing reputation with the Brood of Nordozmu (sp). Not sure if he still has that functionality, but unless you are running AQ for the hell of it, not much he can do for you.
I have slain Tick and the other one Occulous (he does seem to be around anymore?), but neither had any real drops...just vender trash.
From neutral to revered(I did the quests):

4 Black Morass runs
Pretty easy i think
Lock can solo rep in there fairly easily, but at 8'ish rep a kill that might take a while.
so after do the old hillsbrand and black morass quests do instances is the only way to get exalted with keeper of time ???
i'm 1k revered, and i will have to get 20k just doing black morass? >.< (i dont want do hillsbrand, at least BM drop 2 items for me)
this is actually one of easier instances to hit exhalted with. BM runs are really short probably 40-45mins with no wipes, and often if you get a good group....people will wanna run it more then once. Also the rewards are better then some of the other factions. i ran it to exhalted for the healing bracers(and the stupid scarab that wouldnt drop in BM). what dissapointed me about this rep grind...is well the lack of a Tabard......why is there no tabard.
also the heroics in CoT are 2 of the harder ones. id recommend just doing the non heroics for the rep grind. the heroics you need to have pretty decent gear for.

Im not sure how reliable a way to get rep this is but alst night in Netherstorm I released a prisoner at the Ethereum Staging grounds and got 500 rep with keepers of time. The next prisoner i released was some 71 scythclaw named that dropped a blue ring. Maybe it's just random who you release or maybe i can keep getting KOT rep and blues i'll have to try again tonight.
^^^ it's completely random, i opened 20 cells the other night and had different creeps to fight or rep to gain on the same cell each time.
I opened over 30 of the prisons and got one lot of rep for keepers of time, the remainder of the time I fought beasts that often drop blue items (BoP mostly). Got rep with consortium for handing in the prisoner ID tags at nearby camp
i'm crying right now. CoT instances are the only 5-mans in the game that i actually enjoy, and even though i'm a pvp warrior, i've been running BM lot lately... almost exalted and no tabard to look forward too :'-(

Where is the rep vendor at?
Have not been to Caverns yet, was told it was all group runs. Can any runs be made solo? I prefer solo play, but would hate to go all the way out there and find I should have brought friends.
If you can do them solo you don't need to do them
They are all instance. You should head out there once by yourself and do the attunement walk. It takes like 15 min just following this chick around and then your done.
The quest that opens up the Old Hillsbrad instance involves taking a tour of the Caverns. This takes a few minutes, so you might want to get it done when your party isn't standing around waiting to run the instance.
According to WowWiki, there is quite a lot of stuff to see and do in Old Hillsbrad aside from the actual "saving Thrall" mission. There are a few unique vendors, and some lore stuff, and you may recognize some of the locals from present day. More info:

HOWEVER, it looks like you cannot gain reputation or finish any questing solo. There aren't any herb or mineral nodes, and you can't even fish.
So, you can (and should) check out the Caverns of Time and Old Hillsbrad solo, but you're not going to make any real progress without a group.
I have read that running Old Hillsbrad brings 8000 rep with KoT. What I am curious about is whether repeated runs bring the same amount of rep or a reduced amount. In other words, is the 8K calculated just on killing mobs? Because that seems high for an instance, usually it's around 2000 rep with the associated faction...
it's the quest reward, the 8000 Rep. that doesn't count anything gained from killing mobs.
On my Priest I ran Durn twice before I realised the reason I wasn't getting any quest advancement was because I didn't pick up the quest after doing the initial tour of the caverns quest. Anyway, after doing that initial tour quest and two Durn runs I have 2246/3000 rep (Neutral).
So seeing that the tour quest gave me 250 rep, that means that I got 1996 rep just from 2 runs of mobs & bosses. Averaging 998 rep per run. Apparently a full clear gets you 1200 rep and you can grind Durn up to Exalted.
Hillsbrad ~900 rep per run. Seem to be working to revered, not sure about exalted
I wonder if blizz will introduce Flying mounts of the Green, Red, Blue and Bronze dragonflights... Probably something to look forward to in Wrath of the Lich King, Emerald dream and other possible and likely expansions...
