I read through these posts....mostly useless, so i thought I'd put something useful in here that i didn't see. It can be used to resist a hunters freeze trap....works great. Sometimes i'll pop CoS and purposely run over the hunter's freeze trap just to make sure none of my teammates get trapped either. After all, this is a game of teamwork. i posted this up here so that you wouldn't have to sift through everybody's whining to get a good tip.

Seriously, if the caster can stand toe to toe with you in a 1v1 fight for more than 30 seconds, then you've lost already.  Therefore, the argument on the one minute cooldown is irrelevant since you're almost never going to use CoS more than once in a fight versus a caster.

Nobody has pointed out this is a direct quote from one of the "world of roguecraft" videos. Except in the video it's "until Rock hits 60 at which point Rock becomes an unstoppable killing machine and also beats Paper".

Funny post, don't take it seriously and argue about it though guys. The video was made over a year ago.

Have you ever played a rogue?  Ambush is behind the target and Gouge is in front of the target.  Also, it takes a full second of universal cooldown between the attacks, so a mage would have to have dropped their keyboard or something not to retalliate.

On to the main point...  For the most part, rogues will own most mages, but I believe a frost mage would still be tough.

      Ambush -> Frost nova -> CoS -> Ice Block -> Blink -> Polymorph -> Trinket(rogue) -> Sprint -> Cold Snap(mage) -> Frost nova -> Vanish -> Ambush -> Blink -> Blind -> Ice Block -> Frost nova (cooled down by now) ->

At this point, the mage would have low life but the rogue would be out of useful cooldowns.  A preparation rogue could win but any other rogue would most likely lose.

      Preparation -> Vanish -> Ambush -> Dead(mage)

The mage would still have blink but that isn't helpful for getting a rogue out of vanish so they would probably lose.

How about um... shut the fuck up?
Warlocks don't have cheap spells, actaully no classes have CHEAP spells. You cannot have a CHEAP spell. Any spell that you consider "cheap", is being used exactly the way it was meant to be. And, locks dont pwn everything. I can take a lock no problem (I play a shadow priest), along with every other class, including rogues. Some more difficult than others, but I can beat them none the less.

All the battles depend on too many variables to simply judge a win on one side or another.  Every battle between characters varies in equipment, trinkets, talents, ping, situation, buffs, etc.  To assume that rogues will run down any caster is foolhearty.  Its really quite sad to see so much pride and inept understanding of the balance/counter-balance that goes into this game.

Does not remove bleeds (nor should it). They are physical...

It removes harmful spell effects, basically any spell effect that dealt damage will probably be removed...

      example: frostshock.

The focus isn't only on casters, but others such as Paladins (SoV, Consecrate) and Shaman (Flame Shock), etc.

btw to the person who said they use Garrote on a priest, why? 3 seconds isn't justifiable. Try CS or Ambush based on your spec.

        Demo Lock's counter.

        Stealthed Rogue:
Separate Felguard (aggressive or defense) and put him in stay about 15yrd away from yourself.  Upon Ambush, pet intercept stealthy, break stun+run and set pet to stay+aggressive.  (If a fight with a rogue EVER exceeds 30second, set pet to passive and then intercept the rogue again).  DoT CoA+Corr while running away from Rogue in a straight line.  The possible outcome and follow up:

        1) When rogue uses their sprint move > warlock, running in a straight line, jump+turn around and cast deathcoil to divert their running position and waste their ability.  Keep running and let pet's DPS do the job and wait for CoS to wear to reapply CoA+Corr.

        2) If Rogue decides to CoS and Sprint, keep running straight away.  When Rogue catches up, pray that you have the defense and health to take the damage, once CoS disappears, button mash away on Deathcoil > chain fear.  I usually fear twice in case of Medallion.  DoT, DoT, Immolate, Pet DPS and watch the health drop like a madman as I run around.

        3) If Rogue CoS and Vanish, keep running away from where rogue used to be at, break off pet's stay and keep running.  While running away, you have to constantly set pet to stay and follow so felguard is constantly a little far from intercept range (you need the extra range away from intercept so it gives  time for reflex.  This method also allows rogue stun to wear off earlier than intercept stun)
Edit- I made some changes to a new possible way to take on CoS+Vanish:

        Note:
-This is for demo locks only
        -Fel Domination is 15min CD
-Summoning of Inferno stun targets when casted
-Inferno has 2sec casting time + 30min CD
        -Succy: +10%spell damage /Felguard: +5%spell damage +%extra resist buff.
-Redcap Toadstool- Removes poison (Share CD with HS; no level limit).  Requires Sporeggar Honored Rep and costs 1x glowcap each.

a)Fel Domination+Succubus > Rogue attack > Seduction > Run 20yrds away > Immolate > DoT+Run > DoT > Sprint > Deathcoil.  Immolate will make up for the lack of Felguard DPS.  Note Seduction is prone to breaking.

        b)Fel Domination+Succubus > Rogue attack > Seduction > Run 20yrds away + Curse of Shadow > Rogue use Medallion > Seduction > Immolate > DoT+Run > DoT > Sprint > Deathcoil.
This method is longer and requires more reflex and work to prepare for a break in Seduction, but this method is also very safe if you can get the timing down with Seduction duration.

c)Fel Domination+Succubus > Rogue attack > Seduction > Run 20yrds away > Immolate> > Run > DoT > DoT > Rogue Sprint > Deathcoil > Quickly Summon Inferno with casting circle on Rogue  before deathcoil wears > Run
Yeah yeah "WTF!?" BUT I did this three times and it actually executed well two times and once getting me killed (stun resist).  Given the CD for Inferno and Fel Domination, I think I'm happy with my results.  I spent a good 10g experimenting this method for a few days before taking it to PvP and I'll just say its not hard to aim with Inferno's casting circle because its omfg-so-big.  The longer I Stunlock the Rogue, the more damage the DoTs I applied-when-with-Succy inflict.  Inferno's DoT+Melee is also very punishing.  Note Rogue can't dodge Inferno's DoT

Upon Seduction, there's a good possibility that slow poison may be inflicted so prepare the use of Redcap Toadstool when needed before running off because running is not an option when poisoned.  Note that this shares CD with HS.

These three methods are actually slower than leaving Felguard out, but play it right and this trick can prove helpful.  Intercept is another 30sec after first use so besides Demonic Frenzy+Cleave, Felguard lacks the capibility to CC again in a timeframe that can get me kill.  Note that my methods avoid using fear, so Seduction is a viable option to get away from your friendly enemy after Intercept.  Three to Four CC moves to your disposal: Intercept-Seduction-Inferno-Deathcoil.  Keep in mind.

I expect sap+crippling poison if I bandage, so I usually end up popping Super Healing Potion+HS.  If the HS crits, I get around +5k health back with Super Healing Potion.

-If you really want to make a stand, then Bandage.  When rogue attack again, Deathcoil and repeat DoTing and kiting.
For BG: run to your GY while leaving your pet behind so he attacks people trying to capture flag/tower while hoping your dead chums respawn.

        Pre-Stealthed Rogue:
Try to get Felguard to go into attack mode against inc rogue before they go into stealth.  Follow pet to follow the stealthed rogue and stay 30-37yrds away from pet in case of Intercept fail and/or rogue speed boost to go after you.

Rogues are only hard to warlock if the rogue is stealthed or geared equally or better.
Rogues are only dangerous to warlock when felguard is taking on somebody else and already spent Intercept.

I'm a warlock...and let me tell you what REALLY happens when i face a rogue.

step 1: rogue stealths behind you, and stun locks you. By the time he's done, you're at about half health.

step 2: immediately after the stun lock, the rogue procedes to use Cloak of Shadows (the win button), making him virtually impervious to anything you can do...its ok though, you can still whack him with your staff!

step 3: this is where it varies. Either...you die...rogue uses vanish and finishes raping you, or maybe you get an instant howl of terror or death coil out, throw some dots on, and die. the end result is almost always death, unless the rogue sucks ass...and yea...don't even think about casting the real fear...they have sap/gouge/kick to interrupt you.

As for killing warlocks...thats what a druid/ warrior/hunter is for imo...druid cat form kills me in about 5 seconds, warriors get to be immune to fear for 15 seconds...on top of their incredibly high dps...and that oh so annoying intercept...hunter...stupidly high dps, with silencing shot, scatter shot, pet...i cant really kill any of these classes...maybe its because i only have 8,000 hp *rolls eyes*

as a side note, CoS does NOT proc the penalty damage or silence caused when dispelling Unstable Affliction.

The 1 minute cool down also doesn't help me any. By the time i respawn and get to the rogue again, its already recharged.

Thanks Blizzard, i think my PvPing days are over now.

I think im just going to copy and paste this as my reply to everything.  its 5 seconds, then there is the GCD of 1 second, so they can only spam for 4 seconds.  also mages=blink out of stun.  ice mages=ice block and  their CoS is useless.

if u cant stand the heat transfer to a nonpvp server.  they will welcome u im sure.  btw my main is a 70 mage, i dont have a rogue.

btw locks have as much right to bitch about rogues as mages have to bitch about locks.  locks r instant death to mages.  3 fears ohh boo fucking hoo.  each class excels against something else.  u ever camp a mage?  ur fear is to a mage as Cloak of shadows is to a lock.  suck it up and move on or roll PvE.  I encourage the second so noone else has to hear about ur crying.

I AM FULLY GRATEFUL THAT BLIZZARD ADDED CLOAK OF SHADOWS BECAUSE IT MAKES ROGUES A CHALLENGE.  ROGUE>CLOTHY>PLATEY>ROGUE>CLOTHY.  endless cycle.  Now my ranting is done.

Stuff that make you unable to use your skills. Fear for example.

Some skills/items can remove Fear, but CoS won't. It seriously would be WAY too imbalanced if CoS would also break Fear or Sheep or other stuff like that.

Cloak of shadows is a nasty ability indeed, and it really came to turn the tide on pvp world against casters, mainly warlocks. But if you are a smart warlock, you can figure many ways to stay alive after several seconds of stunlock and invincibility from rogues:

              - get a lot of stamina (my warlock currently have over 11k HP unbuffed). I sacrificed a lot of my damage, but if you are a warlock with less than 10k HP, you can't expect to live for too long in a fight against a well geared 70 no matter which class, because most classes can drop down your health bar in a matter of seconds. arcane/fire mages are the perfect example for that, just like rogues/druids/hunters jumping on you and start having fun over your almost armorless character.

              - make good use of your professions. You can pretty much find various ways from your professions to raise your endurance during pvp fights, such as netherweave nets from tailoring, grenades/bombs from engineering, flasks/pots from alchemy, etc... if you wanna live, you should use everything you got. Remember that rogues will pop at least 8 different abilities to kill you and try to keep you helpless.

              - If you have enough reputation with argent dawn (now taken as a worthless faction to raise reputation), you can get the first aid recipe called "Powerful anti-venom", that can remove poison effects, and mats are easy as hell to farm, at least for a lvl 70.

              - make a good use of your minion!

              Hope this helps.

This thread really got away from the topic at hand.. To recap, Cloak of Shadows removes all non-physical debuffs, and puts up a 90% resistance to all types of magic for 4 seconds following.  This ability also enrages unskilled casters for 5 seconds, causing them to curse and attempt to throw bigger spells..  While this does remove hunter's mark and Serpent's Sting, I have noticed that the latter (Serpent's Sting) doesn't seem to be resisted whatsoever, while hunter's mark seems to always be.  Anyone else have this experience?
