Surely there must be another way to aquire these marks other than the above quest?

looking at the "created with spell" info, it looks like you can also earn these by capturing world pvp objects in hellfire peninsula, such as towers (think EPL). i suspect they may introduce more of them eventually.
You get one of these if you kill an enemy faction player (horde get a functionally identical thing) near a PVP objective on Hellfire Peninsula- either the enemy faction's town or the 3 PVP objectives.
